I had read a lot about chia online, and wanted to try them out. I tried them various ways, but have settled into have a shot glass of pudding in the morning (1 tablespoon of seeds, agave, nutmeg, cinnamon, and almond milk--dairy milk tastes ok but the seeds do not soak as much liquid when I use dairy milk, so they are crunchier), and after dinner, a glass of diluted orange juice, with some seeds in it that I keep pre-soaked in the fridge. It has really helped with regularity. I had a lot of problems with constipation before. I read that because of the antioxidants and omega-3's, chia can also be good for reducing wrinkles, but I have not seen any effects in that area yet (I am 30 and have some on my forehead and around my eyes). I try to chew the seeds so that I can get the most of their nutrients, but a lot of them just go right through. I tried grinding them into my smoothies, but they gave it a grainy, thick taste that I didn't like. I prefer to put pre-soaked seeds into my smoothie. If the smoothie contains anything frozen, the seeds quickly freeze and become little chewy ice balls that are quite good. I found when I did the chia-orange-juice thing in the middle of the day as a snack, it gave me diarrhea, so that wasn't so great-feeling. I also read that because chia seeds are in the salvia family, they can be addictive, so you should only eat them 3 weeks out of the month. I haven't had them long enough to get addicted, but I don't know what I would do without them for a week! My diet is overall pretty low in fiber, so chia seeds are a great way to get fiber. They combine well with so many other foods, and are so easy to prepare. I wanted to give some to my pregnant friend, who is of course having problems with regularity, but I read that they are not recommended for pregnant or lactating women, mainly because not much testing has been done in that area. It's too bad, because I was hoping to use them if I get pregnant.
I read so much good stuff about this kind of vinegar that I just had to try it out. I have two teaspoons in a glass of water when I get up in the morning. It's supposed to lower the pH of your body, which is supposed to be really acidic in the morning. I haven't noticed any drastic changes in my health, but it just feels right--kind of balancing--to my empty stomach to drink it first. If I'm too lazy to brush my teeth when I get up, it also gets rid of that terrible morning-breath taste. I am a little worried about its effect on my teeth enamel, so maybe getting some straws would help with that. Also, it may be reducing my body odor a little. I already use ordinary vinegar on the underarms of all my shirts to take away the odor, when washing them. But now that I've been drinking this, I've found there isn't so much odor in the first place. This could have something to do with the cooler weather, as well, so I can't be sure. I've read you can rub apple cider vinegar on your underarms with a cotton ball as a natural deodorant, but I haven't tried it.
I wanted a nice and stiff body brush to dry-scrub my skin. I was hoping to get rid of ingrown hairs on my legs, and massage away cellulite on my thighs. Disappointingly, it doesn't seem to have much of an effect on the ingrowns, but it does slightly reduce the little bumps from hairs that are just emerging. I have yet to see any improvement on my thighs, but I would think that would take a while. It feels really good on my back. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to attach the handle--I had to flip it over and then in went right in. I tried it on my husband, but he said it was really painful. But for me, it's just right. It's honestly almost as still as a scrub brush, but the yerba fibers are more gentle than plastic.
I bought this because I wanted to get rid of ingrown hairs on my legs. I use it in the shower. Actually, the salt tends to disperse when I rub it on my legs, so there's not actually enough to make some major scrubbing action. It works better on small areas such as elbows. But the oil moisturizes my legs nicely for a few days, even if I shower again without using it. Unfortunately, the oil has been making the shower floor very slippery. It has a lemony scent that smells a little like cleaning products when I open it up, but then after the oil heats up when I use it, it really smells fantastic--a much more complex and tropical scent--and leaves the bathroom smelling really good, too.
I really enjoy the smell of the shampoo. Compared to other EO shampoos, it leaves a kind of not-smooth texture in my hair after I rinse it out that I don't really like, but I've gotten used to it. Anyway, my hair texture is normal after it dries. And I find that I am able to lather up without the shower on, which is a plus. Overall, it's nice, but I still prefer the Chamomile and Honey.
I bought this because it doesn't have alcohol in it, and I wanted something thinner and easier to apply than the shea butter that I usually use. The smell is strong and reminded me of hand-soap. It's not a terrible thing to smell like, but I expect lotions to smell a little more fun than that. It does take a little while to absorb, due to the lack of alcohol, but it's nice enough.
